Liszt And Bartók In The Role of Judith, Anna Netrebko

VenuePalace of Arts Müpa Budapest
CalendarMon 07 Dec 2026
Synopsis/Details

Another in a long line of vocal sensations at Müpa Budapest. Eleven months after Anna Netrebko sang Verdi’s Requiem for the first time in her career in Budapest, the world-renowned Russian soprano will make her debut as Judith in several major cities, the Hungarian capital among them, in a concert performance of Bartók’s mystery opera Bluebeard’s Castle. Her partner in the title role will be Sándor Köpeczi, whom the audience of the Requiem will have heard in January. The bass from Cluj-Napoca has enjoyed enthusiastic acclaim everywhere from the Bavarian State Opera and the San Carlo in Naples to the New York Metropolitan. In the first half of the concert, Misi Boros will perform Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Since his victory in the 2014 Virtuózok television talent show, he has become one of the audience’s biggest favourites. Conducting the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra will be Henrik Nánási, a leading figure in Hungary’s musical and operatic life for decades now.

Venue
Palace of Arts Müpa Budapest

When Müpa Budapest, Hungary and its capital's new cultural hub, opened in 2005, it was built to represent more than 100 years of Hungarian cultural history. As a conglomeration of cultural venues, the building has no precedent in 20th century Hungarian architecture and has no peers in the whole of Central Europe.

The creators of this ambitious project, the Trigránit Development Corporation, prime contractor Arcadom Construction and the Zoboki, Demeter and Partners Architectural Office, were driven by the desire to create a new European cultural citadel as part of the new Millennium City Centre complex along the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Danube waterfront. The result is a facility whose construction quality, appearance, functionality and 21st century technological infrastructure makes it ideally suited to productions of the highest standard. The building is also highly versatile and equipped to host performances of any genre and almost any scale.
